Have you been to Whistler? or has it been a really, really long time? Things have changed a bit but ski spirit is burning bright day and night. The terrain is huge and varied, the three villages are brimming over with shopping, food and entertainment and there is tons to do as a non-skier or when you take a day off. This is one hot ski destination 2.5 hours from Vancouver airport that has global chops.

Your host for this Ski Escape is Peter Leahy, a Skican Experience Manager and resident of Whistler. He is possibly the town's biggest cheerleader. He will meet you at the Crystal Lodge on March 29 to start your week of skiing or boarding.

The Crystal Lodge 4*, in pedestrian-only Whistler Village has well appointed rooms with all the ammenities you need and the location is 'primo'. You are a quick walk to the Whistler Gondola, a saunter home from the Longhorn Saloon or Dublin Gate, mere steps from Sushi Village and if you need a new leisure suit, Lululemon is in the building.

The Skiing
Whistler Canada is the largest ski resort in North America and the biggest ski area in the world outside of Europe. It consists of the interconnected Whistler Mountain and Blackcomb Mountain via the Peak to Peak Gondola (an engineering masterpiece, get in a glass bottom car), and it has an incredible 8,171 acres of terrain, a vertical drop of 1,609 metres, over 200 marked trails, and plenty of off-piste opportunities.

There are gentle slopes and wide groomed cruisers to tree skiing, steep alpine bowls, couloirs and terrain parks. No other resort offers this much variety. Whistler Resort is suitable for all types of skiers and snowboarders, from first-timers to extreme riders. Tip: Start your squat program now.

On mountain there are fantastic coffee break and lunch options with incredible views - The Roundhouse and Crystal Hut (try the waffles) - volunteer snow hosts to ski you around to get acclimatized and you can even buy a souvenir and pocket it for the final run of the day.

Some of Skican's favourite areas to explore are: 7th Heaven (literally Heaven and the optimal photo opp area on a sunny day), the Crystal Chair Area, The Dave Murray Downhill, Symphony Bowl, and Peak to Creek.

The Villages
Whistler Village is the largest of the three (Blackcomb, Whistler and Creekside). After a day on the slopes you will find everything you need here - grocer, massage therapist, oysters and proseco, coffee shops, souvenirs, Olympic rings and an ice rink, pubs and live music, a library, the Audain Art Museum, Hi brow food and Misty Mountain pizza (everything but the kitchen sink). It is walkable, lively and ski culture 101.

From Whistler Village you can take a lovely nature walk across a lovely bridge to the base of Blackcomb Mountain. It is a little quieter, with great spots to meet friends and recount the stories of your day. Eat at Nagomi Sushi, have a fancy cocktail at the Mallord Lounge at the Fairmont or catch the Hairfarmers or other music at Merlins.

If you can, visit Creek Side Village. You will pass this on your way from Vancouver Airport before arriving at Crystal Lodge. After descending the longest run at this resort called 'Peak to Creek' (It is 11km. TIP: continue with your squat program) grab a libation at Dusty's or a Pemberton Potatoe Pie Pizza at Creekbreads. You can't walk back to your pillow so plan accordingly.

This Ski Escape in Whistler will be whatever you want it to be. With so much on mountain variety and off mountain potential it is sure to be a super week with your host and new found friends. Get in touch to learn more and sign up!
