With almost 100 years of skiing history, Val d’Isère is a true classic of the French Alps. Staying here will allow you to discover the mecca that is the stunning Tignes-Val d’Isère ski area - formerly known as 'Espace Killy', named after Jean-Claude Killy, the legendary French champion alpine ski racer who dominated the sport in the late 1960s. Now ski friends just call it 'Val'! We think it combines the best of skiing and European culture making it an ideal mountain playground to Ski 'Escape'.
Val d'Isere lies in the Tarentaise valley of the Rhône-Alpes region, southeast France, 5 km from the border of Italy, and has a very reliable snow cover. In combination with the neighbouring Tignes, Val d’Isère offers 300 km on-piste skiing, 78 ski lifts, 10,000ha off-piste (guides available), and two glaciers. It’s mega! The resorts are linked by lift, piste & lift pass, effectively creatively one massive ski resort.
Sitting at over 6,000 feet the posh yet laid-back base village, built in 1971, has all the resort amenities you could wish for - shopping, entertainment, and delicious cuisine. It is an authentic skiers' village that manages incredible harmony between modern tourism and local chalet-style architecture. You will be staying in comfortable lodging in the village at The Kandahar Hotel with quick and easy ski access each morning after breakfast.
The après-ski scene is famous for being lively, with ample opportunity to dance in your ski boots at popular party venues like La Folie Douce. But there is plenty of variety - relax by the fire with a quiet cocktail or tea if this is more your 'cup of tea'.
Take in the beautiful views, ski your legs off, and relax on this hassle-free trip.
